Here we discuss the family and what you can do to create a happier, healthier family.
From time to time I write prayers for (on behalf of) the President. I did not vote for President Barrack Obama, and I do not support his policies; however, I do support praying for him and his family. Like any believer I am responsible for praying for our leaders; however, as a minister I also bare the burden of the prophetic message. As such, I offer the following concerning what is about to transpire in this nation.

One political party proclaimed "hope" that we could believe in if we provided a "change" in  the Executive Office. That party promised 'hope and change' would come with difficulty, but the economy would improve. Kinda like promising a kid a giant double dipped ice cream cone for less than a dollar. Would any kid actually refuse such an offer?

I am abona fide carnivore therefore I like animals. Many are very tasty.  Beef, chicken, salmon and occasional pork chop make their grand appearance on my menu at a regular basis. Fried, grilled, or roasted it doesn't matter. In my book, the more meat, the better.

However, I live in a family which prefer vegetables. Try as I might, I have not converted them to the carnivorous lifestyle. They have however, succeeded in getting me to see that there is more to food than flesh.

Recently a dear friend blessed us with what appeared to be a bag of bread. Upon closer observation I discovered that along with the bread it also contained a large squash. A spaghetti squash to be exact. I wondered out loud: "Just what am I suppose to do with this?"

It happened Sunday evening June 27, 2010. I received the honor of pinning the Royal Rangers Gold Medal of Achievement on my son’s uniform. The magnitude of his accomplishment enhanced when I discovered nation wide fewer than 7,000 young men have acquired this coveted medal.

I prepared to stand before my son who, once dwarfed by my shadow, now towers over me. I thought upon the medal and my attention fixed on the solitary word inscribed upon it. “READY” speaks volumes to my heart. Tears trace my eyes. I reminisce.

According to Webster’s New College Dictionary, the adjective ‘ready’ means: 1. Prepared or available for service or action. 2. Mentally disposed. 3. Liable or about to do something. 4. Prompt in apprehending or reacting.

This adjective appears in the Royal Rangers Motto which reads: “Ready! Ready for Anything! Ready to Work, Play, Serve, Worship, Live, and to Obey God’s Word!” This simple motto is supported by the Royal Ranger’s central them found within their pledge which states: “With God’s help, I will do my best to serve God, my church and my fellow man; to live by the Ranger Code; to make the Golden Rule my daily rule.” (That golden rule is found in Matthew 7:12. “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”)

I became acquainted with Royal Rangers in 1985 while attending seminary in Springfield, Missouri. I did volunteer work with a local chapter, but I never believed the program would be of long term significance to me.

I was reared in the Texas Panhandle (Castro County) near the small German-Irish community of Nazareth. Nazareth’s claim to fame is its High School girls’ basketball team boasting 15 state championships in 20 years. However, the heart of the community is a Catholic cathedral called Holy Family Church. North of the structure is the church’s cemetery. In one area of this cemetery lies the final resting place of many of my relatives. One relative interned is my Uncle Anthony who we called Tony.
